I love and hate Insurance/Financial Agents

A fresh egg of unhappiness and sadness broke in my heart when i heard that my current insurance agent drops his letter of resignation. I think he was the BEST agent I’ve ever had so far with this company, but unfortunately, good things doesn’t last and i hope he will do well in other pastures.

A new agent was assigned to us. Though she is not a newbie in this line, i still feel she can do better. Perhaps i expect too much from the people from the service line, but they are the people that should bring convenience to us, and not the other way round.

The first impression went down the drain when we first tried to contact her and introduce ourselves (It should be the other way round!!). It took her a long while to get back to us, saying she is overseas. Fine.

From the first time we requested to amend our existing plans, she has made several unnecessary trips to our place - just for ONE miserable plan . First, she forgot to bring the relevant documents. Second, she forgot to get our signatures. And lastly, there are miscommunication between her and the company.

In the end, our monthly premiums are not correctly deducted. We called to tell her about it, and she said we will get back to us. It has been a few days since we informed her; and when we finally get down to call her, once again, she say she is overseas. Oh gosh! No courtesy to inform us.

Looks like we have to request for a change of agent real soon if nothing concrete is done in another one or two weeks.

Don’t say i am cruel. My temper and level of expectations of people has went from Level 10 all the way down to as low as level 4 since i went into part-time teaching line during my Uni times. Even for myself, i have high exepectations. If i failed to achieve something which i think i can do well, i will be very sore and angry with myself. Then i will lament and hide in one corner, hoping to disappear from the surface of the world.

I know i have to give chances to people who are willing to learn. Nobody’s perfect anyway. If a student makes a mistake, that’s forgivable as long as he/she takes responsibility and admits to it. But i cant bring myself to give chances to adults with life experiences especially if they chose to be in the service line. And worst still, it’s something that have to do with $$!!

In my point of view, an average insurance agent should possess at least the following set of characteristics:

  • Efficient
  • Punctual
  • Well-versed in their products
  • Recommend products seriously out of good will. Most agents recommend products because they are in need of commission and NOT for your own good. This is the part i couldn’t stand. [if u have been doing ur own investment/product research and analysis, u will know when your agent is giving u good or stupid advice. Else, i think you better start doing your own homework.]
