I recently gotten my hands on this book entitled ‘The Ruins‘ by Scott Smith.

Seriously speaking, i never knew this author exist before i stumbled upon this book in the community library. It seemed that my favorite authors had ‘ran out of books’ for me to read. Either the library was late in keeping up with their recent paperbacks or they simply had halted publishing their works. Either way, i was kinda disappointed.

This book turned up to be a very addicting book. It keeps me turning pages after pages for hours without seeing a good reason to stop. [Just like how Harry Potter capture my short attention span.]

It was clearly stated on the book cover:

Warning: Do not pick up a copy of Scott Smith’s ‘The Ruins’ if you have anything else you need to do in the next eight hours or so

How true this statement is. I almost forgot to eat my lunches while reading this book.

Imagine yourself traveling happily to a resort with a group of close friends. Along the way, you met another group of tourists and get to know them more personally. One of them told you that his brother was lost on the island itself and he hasn’t heard from him for quite a while. That brother left them a map and a short note. The destination drawn on the map happened to be a spot far far away from where you guys are now.

One of your close friends empathized with him and decided to help him hunt for the brother , and he managed to persuade you guys along. You had a bad feeling about this, but since he is your close friend, you relent to his pleas.

The whole group travels to the destination happily, only to end up knowing that it’s a ONE-WAY trip. There’s no way to return to point one because there is not a single transportation from there.

The whole group was left to fend for themselves with something horrible living all around them…. imagine this, the group was not prepared to stay for a long time. There’s not enough food, not enough water.. life is really horrible… plus, something is waiting around them… trying to lure them into traps, mimic their voices to sow discord among them… friends dying…. etc…
