a strange lady

Thursday, April 3rd, 2008

While hubby was busy vacuuming the floor today, we received a knock on the door. Thinking it was another unwelcome saleslady, I ignored it and continued to watch my favorite Ah Wang show. Hubby went to open the door and was greeted by a lady who claimed to be our neighbor who lives in a unit directly below us. Ah, I was pretty curious now, and i strained my ears to hear their conversation from where i am sitting :P

Apparently the lady came to ‘complain’ about a series of noises that she claimed to be from the unit above her — which I supposed she is referring to us lah. She said she has been hearing some ‘kiat kiat’ sound for months from the floor above her. Today, she couldn’t stand it and came knocking on our doors.

The first question that she asked was, do we have kids? My hubby gave a straight no and asked where did she hear the sounds.

Here is an extract of the conversation: [simplified version]

Lady: Do you have kids?
Hubby: Nope.

Lady: You never hear any sounds around your sofa area? I was disturbed by the noise for months… almost everyday!

Hubby: Err… did you say sofa area?

Lady: yes

Hubby: But we seldom stay around in the living room. 95% of our time was spent in the study room. The only time we spend in the living room is to eat or watch the 7pm show.

Lady: …………

In the end, i doubt she believed us, but she walk away somehow. Strange lady.

new phone

Wednesday, April 2nd, 2008

Recently, i find that Singtel has only a few collection of nice and pretty less- than- $100 phones for a Classic Plan. That’s so pathetic… and i am one of those misers who simply refused to spend more than $100 on a phone. It’s just a tool for me to sms/call my friends or colleagues. Sometimes, to take simple bad good pictures for my blogs.

I managed to get this average W910i phone at $98 that includes a 1G Sony’s proprietary memory card. I’ve heard numerous bad comments about this phone, but which phone doesn’t have bad comments? It’s just a matter of luck.

Online Image Editors

Wednesday, April 2nd, 2008

I received an MSN message from my sis this morning.

Sis: Hey jie, can help me edit a photo?

Me: eh… how to edit?

Sis: I want to resize my image into passport size. Need to use your image editor, like PhotoShop.

Me: My only software editor is Paint leh.. It comes with Windows ah…

Sis: Paint can meh???

Me: Why not? Or use an online image editior?

Sis: ZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzz

I am not a PhotoShop user, and i doubt i’ll ever be one. Why must I pay for a premium software when i can find so many nice online image editors? Pardon me for making this statement. It’s not because PhotoShop is no good. It is useful for professionals but as a photography novice, i think it’s best for me to play around with simple web editors.

I must also confess that i am not a professional photographer and i seldom include many images in my blog, if you have noticed by now. :)

My favourite online editor so far is Fotoflexer. It has all the basic functions like layering, cropping, resizing, trimming etc…

Yesterday, i was feeling real bored busy at night. Despite my terrible running nose, i simply could not stay away from my lappy even for a night. While waiting for hubby to finish his bathroom adventure, i decided to fiddle around with ONE of the few sites i’ve discovered from DigitalLife.

The first URL that attracts me is Picnik.com

The index page looked impressive, and one does not need to register to try out the features. This is something i love! So i try out some of the features using the image below from bigfoto.com :

The most obvious observation is, it took quite sometime for the page to load completely. More especially so if you are using a shared broadband service at night.

This is one of my favourite edited result. :)

Sick today

Tuesday, April 1st, 2008

I seriously hate being sick, especially when the beginning of a new class semester is just around the corner. As i started to sneeze and drip on my way home today, i begun to ponder over the question. ‘Where have i caught that bloody flu bug from?‘ Must be from the uncle on the MRT train yesterday. Arghh… blame it on my low immune system during that few minutes of train journey.

It happened so suddenly. What i thought was just a simple stomach wind problem turns out to be something huge. The wind is almost gone but the headache and stuffy nose lingers around still. What a bad timing…
