Due to unforeseeable circumstances, we have to cancel our Bangkok trip this weekend. It’s so pretty sad but what to do, some things cannot be predicted. The 6 of us took months to prepare for this trip and was full of enthusiasm till so many things happened over the last two months. Now, only 2 of the group managed to proceed with the plan.

Hope we will have more travel opportunities in the future.

Vitamins and milk

Sunday, September 28th, 2008

Went for another visit to the gynae last Friday. Receive more ‘horrors’ than excitment.

1. Stunned to see the foetus via ultrasound. ‘OMG, i am simply not ready.

2. Prescribed vitamin pills.

I was double horrified to see the size of the vitamin pills. You know i hardly can swallow pills. I need to bite them into halves or let them simply dissolve in water. The ObiMin film tablets are iron pills which might cause serious heatiness and constipation. The NeuroGain is simply Tuna Oil (DHA) essential for brain development. These are soft vegetables so swallowing it wasn’t hard at all. The worst is the Caltrate 600, calcium pills. I almost puke out my dinner just trying to swallow it last night. I simply let it dissolve it in my mouth before i finally ate it.

Pregnancy vitamins

Think with my still ever existing stomach wind+vomiting sensation around, it’s pretty hard for me to swallow things i dislike that well. Looks like i am going to be one of those unlucky women to have the longest MS around. :(

I found an alternative — The Similac milk compound with the same essential vitamins that I required from the provision store. I hope to take these two alternatively without causing much harm.

Things i did to curb my nausea

Saturday, September 27th, 2008

VomitingOne of the worst thing that could happen to a mum-to-be in a pregnancy is having nausea and bad stomach wind. I am just one of the unlucky ones who just happen to have the above two for the past many weeks. Still having it now though. Even if i don’t feel like vomiting, the bad wind will somehow force the undigested food out of my system. Gosh, i really dread this feeling.

So what did i actually do to try to mitigate the ‘puking’ feeling in my mouth and upper respiratory tract all these while? (Effectiveness: 70%)

There are many resources out there with good tips on how to curb nausea but not all suits me well. I guess every woman is different in a pregnancy. Here are some of what i did which i find useful:

  • Munch Twisties with BBQ flavour or eat spicy potato chips (Spicy stuff works wonders for me)
  • Drink carbonated drinks such as Ginger Ale, 7-up after meals
  • Suck on hard lemon-honey sweets on bus trips (Can try the Halls hard candy)
  • Eat dried sweet and sour prunes (Can be found in 7 eleven stores)
  • Eat Metoclopramide pills every morning before breakfast (Can get from gynae/Family GP)
  • Drink honey warm water instead of plain water (Plain cold water makes my nausea worst)
  • Drink coffee once in a while (Drinking your most favored drink somehow destroys all nauseousness feelings you have ^_^)

Viwawa: Learning Big 2.5

Tuesday, September 23rd, 2008

Just like my students, i am never comfortable with playing Cards. After playing Sushido for a while, i’ve decided to opt for Big2.5 Classic for a change. My hubby is an expert in this game and he has been using my viwawa id to level up to a point that i could no longer use the same id if i were to try out the game. Creating a new id is an option for me but at a bigger risk of getting kicked :P

I mean, it’s sad that nobody wants to play with noobs (a.k.a newbies)

I’ve learn some basic rules of Big2.5 (without using superficial skills of course):

1. Play accordingly to the number of cards started by the first player. If the player begins with a double, please follow.

2. Card value and suit rank must be higher than the previous player’s, else please PASS

3. Suit ranking: Diamond, Club, Hearts and then Spade

4. The card with value 2 is the biggest (Ok, not ace now. *rolleyes* NO wonder it’s call Big 2)

5. 5 cards ranking (Most headache for me as i have slow reaction time):

  • Series (1,2,3,4…. running numbers)
  • Flush (all cards having same suit)
  • Full House (3 cards of same value + 2 others of same value)
  • 4 of a Kind (Any 4 same value plus one other value)
  • Straight Flush (same suit and in running numbers)

6. The running series J, Q, K, A and 2 is acceptable in Viwawa Big 2.

7. If next player is left with a last card, play your LARGEST card in your hand.

8. Game ends when player is left with no more cards.

I shall try this game out and see how fun it is. If there’s any error(s) in the above rules, please let me know.

The good thing about this game is, there are 5 sec and 10 seconds-only channels. So if you only have a short rest time, can choose to play this game.

Kids, the missing jigsaw?

Saturday, September 20th, 2008

Thoughts a few months ago…..

After 3 years of being a DINK (double income and no kid) married couple, two of our marriage ‘governors’ (the two mums) finally pull out their last of their swords after many hints, “Excuse me, when are you two planning to have kids?” Hubby and I rolled our eyes. The pressure from government is enough, and now this?

I was reading the Women’s weekly magazine for Oct 2008 issue this morning and i got a shock that couples in their 30s actually went for abortions after conceiving their first kid. I went, OMG, there are many couples out there who are dying to conceive and yet they are taking away their kids’ lives. I strongly believed kids are gifts from heaven.

Main culprit: MONEY and Career. Oh yes. We are quite hesitant due to this reason too. In today’s vulnerable society, we cant afford to lose both M and C. Both of us loved our job very much and it took me quite a while to finally found what i always loved doing all my life — working and learning with teenage students. Will being pregnant took all these away? Even though the government guaranteed you the job once you are pregnant, but are all companies following this policy?  Sigh.. and lastly, do we really need kids to piece up our marriage puzzle?

Lantern Festival 2008

Lantern Festival

I always looked forward to the Lantern Festival every year. This festival has a long history but to me, it’s a day where families get together to view the moon, play lanterns and eat mooncakes. During my time as a student, I still remembered the festival was very near our Final Examinations period and i always started mugging into the books right after the celebration.

Every year, without fail, i will make it a point to take a walk around the Chinese garden and paid around $18 per pax to see those cute lantern exhibits, walk through Chinatown and also start buy nicely decorated mooncakes for relatives.

Things are very different this year. My brother and sister, and also parents have their own commitments to attend to on the very day itself - that is TODAY. I also didn’t have the mood and strength to go down Chinese garden nor Chinatown to do my usual lantern viewing. We even tone down on buying mooncakes. In fact, i think i only bought 4 this year. We tend to go for the traditional taste rather than to try out other weird tastes out there.

mooncakes

However, despite all these dampening moments, the spirit of celebrating this festival still remains in our hearts. I still get to eat the usual mooncakes too. :)

Happy Lantern Festival!

Preston and Child

Thursday, September 11th, 2008

Had been doing some readings (alternate reading and sleeping) on the days when i am on leave and medical leave. Reading is a good way to pass the time especially on those days where i am too weak to walk around or even sit straight on the sofa. It’s also a form of distraction from my discomforts.

Hubby introduced the new series of books written by Preston and Child to me. Boy, i loved the way the stories are written. It’s not the usual medical series. Rather, it’s more on mysterious murder stories. There are a lot of twists and surprises in the murder stories. This is something that caught my attention.

Here are some of the books I’ve read over the past few months. :)

Year 08/09 semester 2

Monday, September 8th, 2008

It’s the beginning of the new semester. Dragged myself to bed at 11pm yesterday despite having taken naps in the afternoon. Set two alarms to wake me up at 2 different time intervals in case I forgot. Having the need to wake up at 530am on class days is no joke for me. Why so early?

1. Scared my MS strike at the wrong time. Need time to settle it in.

2. Scared couldn’t get seats on bus/trains. Simply could not stand on long journeys.

3. Scared late for class.

Time has come a point where my endurance has been stretched. What happen to my passion and interest all of a sudden?

Blog shop: Misscaramella

Sunday, September 7th, 2008

Blogshops are a norm in today’s era. Consumers have wider choices and could purchase things at the comfort of their home or offices. With good and clear information about a product on the web, i think we can purchase the right goods with ease and convenience.

Recently, i’ve bought a top from a friend who recently started a blog shop. I’ve never worn such a top in my life but i like the way it was worn on the model.

Isn’t this top cool?
